The proposed design solution was to modernize, upgrade and re-orientate part of the building to create a striking new entrance and entrance hall following a new management structure within the Association and link with the existing facilities, providing a new refurbished general purpose sports hall facility together with new changing facilities including sauna, showers, toilet facilities, as well as refurbishment of existing squash courts, etc.  Contemporary glazing and cedar cladding were used to create a contemporary aesthetic lifting the appearance of the existing pavilion which had become somewhat tired.

Procurement

The project was procured on a traditional basis with the contract awarded to McAleer and Teague Contractors who carried out the project on time and to budget whilst maintaining the existing operation of the sports facility throughout with little or no impact on the continuation of the existing facilities.

Awards/Press

The project was covered in the local architectural press and constructions journals.
